First of all, candidates in the arena contest came from Grades 3 and 4. Then, five contestants were selected through the preliminary contest. The arena competition consisted of two rounds. During the first round, other known as the knockout math, competitors had a dictation of 15 Chinese characters, followed by the on-site correction of the judges. Afterwards, the top ten students entered the second round according to the scores from high to low.
Second of all, the second round, other known as the championship race, comprised character pronunciation and pattern question types with four questions in total. Two players were eliminated in each topic. Furthermore, contestants wrote Chinese characters in sequence. Those who could not write according to the topics would be weeded out. After half-an-hour fierce competition, students Sun Weilian and Lu Huilin from Class 1, Grade 4 and Class 2, Grade 4 respectively were promoted to the finals, during which they wrote out the Chinese characters conveyed by gesture language one by one.
